The popularity of online dating apps and websites has skyrocketed in recent years. The cannabis community is now responding to this phenomenon appropriately: by creating marijuana dating sites made specifically for smokers.
You might ask why tokers can’t just use the dating app platforms that are already out there, but there’s a good reason for this move. Even though marijuana is being legalized across the country and public perception of the drug is becoming more positive, marijuana smoking in a dating partner isn’t always a turn-on.
In fact, a survey conducted by Match.com called the “Singles In America” survey found that 70% of singles think it’s a turnoff is a partner regularly smokes marijuana. On the flip side, though, 38% of men and 24% of women are open to dating a daily toker.
For people who enjoy the lifestyle of smoking daily, this presents a challenge in the dating world. Probability dictates that it would be rare to find an acceptable match on a dating site, yet tokers want to use these tools just the same.
Luckily, marijuana smokers are banding together to solve the problem together. There has been an influx of marijuana-friendly dating apps on the market, such as High There! and My420Mate. My420Mate got its start in 2014, and it has about a half a million users in the 50 states.
High There! claims to be more of a social networking app for the cannabis community, but it functions a lot like Tinder. There are about 300,000 users mostly in the United States. CEO of High There! says the app isn’t just for dating:
“It’s not just about meeting and dating. That does take place, but [sharing experiences on] the medicinal side of things, sharing experiences, travel, you name it. There’s multiple ways in which people connect and the reasons for it.”
Thanks to these savvy developers, the cannabis community has a tool to connect with one another judgement-free, romantically or platonically.
