At Home Marijuana Delivery Services Helping Sick, Disabled Patients

There’s a new bill going around the Colorado state Senate, and if it gets passed, it could make marijuana home delivery services a reality.

Another state already has a program like this in place; the legislation is modeled after a similar program in Oregon.  The biggest push for passing the bill comes from concern that many medical marijuana patients are sick, disabled or otherwise unable to make it to marijuana dispensaries for medication.

The effort is being spearheaded by Rep. Jonathan Singer (D-Longmont), Sen. Tim Neville (R-Littleton) and Rep. Jovan Melton (D-Aurora).  Singer spoke to the Cannabist in a phone interview on Friday:

“This hopefully solves some of the problems as it relates to people concerned about marijuana DUIs or sick patients who don’t have access to dispensaries.”

In Oregon, their laws were amended and implemented by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.  They added about 117 dispensaries that are cleared to deliver cannabis right to their customers.  Of course, they have an extensive system to monitor the cannabis from seed to sale to door.

Marijuana dispensary owners and workers alike are happy about the shift in policy.  In Oregon.  Manager of a dispensary called La Cannaissear in Linnton said:

“It’s super exciting.  I definitely expect to see a smile on everyone’s face when we show up at that front door.”

This new movement towards marijuana home delivery could start spreading to legal and recreational states before too long.  Not only does it help disabled or immobile patients get the medicine they need, it also helps to prevent concerns about cannabis DUIs.
