Once he reached back to his place, he germinated them and started playing with its unique genetics by making use of them in his breeding program. From the 4 seeds he brought with him, one male and 3 females were found. The females were named Chemdawg, after his name. Over time, he tried to germ more seeds until he came up with what he believed to be a keeper. From there on, the word about this amazing strain spread to different places as cultivators from all over wanted to use it for their programs.

The rest as they say is history as the strain skyrocketed in popularity and became one of the more iconic cannabis strains known today. It was also the parent to both OG Kush and Sour Diesel, both of which have produced entire families of new strains. Even today, most of the new varieties have OG Kush and Diesel, splattered across their marketing. And none of it would have existed if it weren’t for Chemdawg due to which cannabis connoisseurs have awarded it its much deserved legendary status.

It is important to note that the exact history of Chemdawg is still debated by a lot of people. Most of the popular stories all share similar aspects of the story but deviate in the details. Appearance of CHEMDAWG BUD

The Chemdawg comes with medium-sized buds and looks similar (but not the same) to those with hybrid or indica lineage. The flowers are long, tapered and loose with wispy and vibrant leaves. Across the leaves, you will see splattered white trichomes which give a silvery-white appearance to the buds. The buds themselves are a bit difficult to open with your hands as they come with both a tarry texture as well as a loose structure. One of the more difficult aspects of growing Chemdawg is due to its height. It can grow up to over 5 feet which means you need to bend and prune it very early to ensure that its height is manageable later on. It also requires a lot of nutrients to grow and flowers between 9 to 10 weeks. If grown properly, you should also get a very generous yield (70 grams per square foot). During the flowering stage, the weight can make the plant sag, so you may want to consider using wooden supports during this phase.
