CHEMDAWG is well-balanced hybrid that has become very popular in recent years. It is known for both its effects as well as for its pungent smell. It is considered to have a classic cannabis scent of diesel and spicy wet earth.
The Chemdawg strain is one of the most well-known strains of marijuana that comes with a debated genetic history. The world of cannabis is one that is full of surprises. Over time, various strains of cannabis have been created and grown helping millions of people all over the world to help with their ailments or to just relax and unwind.
Amongst all the different strains, the Chemdawg has attained legendary status not only due to its effects but also its mysterious origin. Very few strains can claim the same amount of impact that it has made and it will probably stay the same for the foreseeable future.
HISTORY OF CHEMDAWG STRAIN
As per the legend, it all began in the early 1990s, when a few people who loved cannabis went to see the Grateful Dead on their tour. They had something amazing in their hands which they named “Dog Bud” because it had such a euphoric effect that it made people who smoked it roll on the floor like a dog. However, they also nicknamed it “Chem Bud” due to its distinct diesel fuel flavor. During a show, they decided to sell some of it. One individual named Chemdog bought it from them for the price of $500 and loved it so much that he collected a few seeds for later research.
Once he reached back to his place, he germinated them and started playing with its unique genetics by making use of them in his breeding program. From the 4 seeds he brought with him, one male and 3 females were found. The females were named Chemdawg, after his name. Over time, he tried to germ more seeds until he came up with what he believed to be a keeper. From there on, the word about this amazing strain spread to different places as cultivators from all over wanted to use it for their programs.
The rest as they say is history as the strain skyrocketed in popularity and became one of the more iconic cannabis strains known today. It was also the parent to both OG Kush and Sour Diesel, both of which have produced entire families of new strains. Even today, most of the new varieties have OG Kush and Diesel, splattered across their marketing. And none of it would have existed if it weren’t for Chemdawg due to which cannabis connoisseurs have awarded it its much deserved legendary status.
It is important to note that the exact history of Chemdawg is still debated by a lot of people. Most of the popular stories all share similar aspects of the story but deviate in the details. We may never find out how it actually began as the only thing we have is hearsay. But the mystery of its exact origin is also what makes this strain a legendary one for legends without mystery.
Appearance of CHEMDAWG BUD
The Chemdawg comes with medium-sized buds and looks similar (but not the same) to those with hybrid or indica lineage. The flowers are long, tapered and loose with wispy and vibrant leaves. Across the leaves, you will see splattered white trichomes which give a silvery-white appearance to the buds. The buds themselves are a bit difficult to open with your hands as they come with both a tarry texture as well as a loose structure. Due to this reason, many find themselves using a grinder when preparing the flower for making a joint or for smoking in a pipe. The smell is also one of its most distinct features as it comes with a pungent earthy smell coupled with chemical and diesel scents. You will either love it or hate it.
Effects of CHEMDAWG CANNABIS
One of the main reasons why many consider the Chemdawg to be legendary is due to its effects. It tastes sour when inhaled but tangier on the exhale. One thing that makes the Chemdawg so unique is that you experience the high very quickly. In some cases, it might hit you even before you were able to enjoy and appreciate its distinct aroma. The high can last for hours and make all of your senses more heightened. What starts as a very disorienting and powerful high in the beginning, gradually turns into a cerebral one. This will depend on your initial mood and the setting of course.
Many consider the Chemdawg ideal when you want to have long and insightful conversations as well as creative undertakings as it can amplify your senses. What’s interesting about it, however, is that it rarely ends up with couchlock, which according to some is proof that it has a little bit of indica in its genetics. Aside from long, meaningful conversations, creative expression and relaxation, Chemdawg also offers a variety of medicinal benefits as well. It can help with stress, anxiety and disorders such as PTSD too.
There is a flip side to all the positive effects too as Chemdawg can also make you feel paranoid. It's highly potent and its amplification of one’s sensory experiences can lead to manic and repetitive thinking. Therefore, it is recommended that you start off lightly and work your way up only if you don’t feel any negative effects.
Growing CHEMDAWG SEEDS
If you are a novice grower, then the Chemdawg is not the ideal one to start with as it requires a lot of maintenance. It can be done, of course, but you need to know that it will require a lot of work from you. It is usually grown indoors to prevent too much mold and mildew from destroying it. One of the more difficult aspects of growing Chemdawg is due to its height. It can grow up to over 5 feet which means you need to bend and prune it very early to ensure that its height is manageable later on. It also requires a lot of nutrients to grow and flowers between 9 to 10 weeks. If grown properly, you should also get a very generous yield (70 grams per square foot). During the flowering stage, the weight can make the plant sag, so you may want to consider using wooden supports during this phase.
